Candle Care 101

Candle Care 101

luxury candle deserves a luxury burn. Proper candle care not only keeps you safe, but it also helps your candle last longer, burn cleaner, and smell stronger. Here’s everything you need to know to get the most out of your La Michelle’s Scents candle.

✂️ 1. Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about ¼ inch.
Why it matters:
•     Prevents soot and smoke
•     Helps the flame stay steady
•     Extends the life of your candle
•     Keeps your vessel clean and beautiful
A trimmed wick = a cleaner, safer, more luxurious burn.

🔥 2. Let the Wax Melt to the Edges on the First Burn
Your first burn sets the tone for the entire candle.
Let it melt all the way to the edges before blowing it out — usually 1–2 hours depending on the size.
Why it matters:
•     Prevents tunneling
•     Ensures an even burn
•     Maximizes your total burn time
This is the secret to getting every hour your candle is designed to give.

🏡 3. Choose the Right Location
Where you place your candle affects how it burns.
Avoid:
•     Drafty areas
•     Near fans or vents
•     Direct sunlight
•     Unstable surfaces
Choose:
•     Flat, heat-safe surfaces
•     Open areas away from curtains or décor
•     Spots where the flame can burn undisturbed
A stable environment = a steady flame.

🚫 4. Never Burn for More Than 3–4 Hours at a Time
Even the best candles need a break.
Long burns can cause:
•     Overheating
•     Excessive flame height
•     Weakened fragrance quality
After 3–4 hours, extinguish the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight when ready.

🕯️ 5. Keep Your Candle Clean
If you see wick trimmings, dust, or debris in the wax, remove them before lighting.
A clean candle burns brighter, safer, and more beautifully.

✨ 6. Know When It’s Time to Say Goodbye
Stop burning your candle when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom.
This protects the vessel from overheating and keeps you safe.

🌟 A Candle That Burns Well, Lives Well
Candle care is part of the ritual — a moment of intention that makes your candle last longer, smell stronger, and glow more beautifully. When you take care of your candle, it takes care of your space.
